Low Carb Mom's

Welcome! I'm a busy recruiter in Financial Services (LOVE it!) and a mom to four awesome kids:
(Aerial 17, Maddison 13, Elijah 11 & Noah 8).

Low Carb is how I dropped the baby weight & got in shape. I blog about livin' la vida low-carb in hopes of helping other mom's implement the lifestyle and lose the weight for good using "normal" people food and meal planning.

Ya Breath Staaaank!

Ok, so maybe you knew this and maybe you didn't. When you go into Ketosis, your breath will usually become quite funky. When carb levels are lowered to the 20 gram limit per day during Induction, the body is forced to convert fat into energy. That's Ketosis.

Ketosis causes funky breath because of Ketones which help convert fat stores into energy. Ketones are chemicals that change the pH of your body & cause bad breath.

Solution? Drink LOTS of water, find a no-carb chewing gum (no more than two pieces a day - more than that has caused me to stall before), and brush teeth regularly (I am a little OCD about it and brush 4-5 x's a day).

On the bright side - stanky breath means you're definitely in Ketosis & burning up some serious fat. This annoying side effect won't last too long - and should keep you pretty motivated to achieve goal weight asap. As soon as your carb limit is increased (Phase 2 - after Induction), your breath won't be funky anymore :)
