And I love this hat!The Fat Fast is over, and all the cravings are too! That Fat Fast REALLY works. If you're struggling with serious carb cravings and having trouble getting back into the lifestyle - I highly recommend a Fat Fast.

Sailing right along and dropping that weight I gained while on my 5-6 weeks of cheating. Ugh...I STILL regret it majorly.

I saw something on the news the other day where a fitness expert computerized strength training equipment to provide the right amount of resistance at the right time. The end result was a 15 minute FULL body workout. Amazing. I can't wait for that to hit the market. IN the meantime, I will be focusing on going to full failure as quickly as possible on the equipment. Including assisted squats. I'll keep track of my before & after pictures and post here.
For now, here's one of me in my hat yesterday. I love this hat. Marcus' aunt Kathy gave it to me :)

I really regret it, by the way. I won't be doing that again...

So, the Fat Fast - in case you haven't heard of it: It's 1000 calories a day for 3-5 days of Fat Fast approved foods to jump start Ketosis and push through a Metabolic Resistance.

I have pinned a Low Carb Friends forum post / conversation on Pinterest.

For me, a Fat Fast is the perfect way to beat the cravings and get back into Ketosis fast.

My favorite Fat Fast foods are 2 oz Cream Cheese, & 1 oz Macadamia Nuts OR Tuna mixed with tripple the real Mayo. Mmmm. Eat 5 mini meals for 3-5 days similar to that, and you're definitely in Ketosis and past a stall.

It's day four. The sugar cravings are starting to diminish.

I always forget the main reason for this lifestyle is to experience the many amazing results like high energy level, stable blood sugar therefore stable moods, staying full longer, better complexion, etc.

The cheat day started on the fourth of July, also the day we celebrated my daughters 17th Birthday. I just returned to Low Carb Induction todayi, August 19th.

Today has not been bad. I have noticed a lot of sugar and fast food cravings, but didn't cave. A Starbucks Frappe was tough to get out of my mind, so now I am derermined to find a Low Carb version or make one myself.

Today I have had an omlet for breakfast, chicken salad mid day, lunch, and dinner. I will probably have a similar menu for a while just to get back in the Low Carb habit.

I really want some...

For the past few months I have been doing squats on the assisted squat machine. I really wish I had taken some more "before" pictures for a comparison, but the squats produce real results.

There is an additional benefit: squats rebuild the muscles of the pelvic floor. Simply put, squats can replace Kegals while at the same time give you really nice butt, legs & even arms. It's like a full body workout.

So, here's to squats. I am ordering some of that gym gear that has "she squats bro" printed on it :)

But lately - I am in LOVE with Pinterest. Please, follow my Low-Carb Board :)
I have to before this weight gain gets out of control. Regardless of the people that say "Oh you're not getting fat" or "You look great"... it's about our personal best - right? I feel better at my goal weight, so here we go.

Today I have had to force myself to eat so all I've had is three fried eggs. Dinner will probably be the same thing - just because it's quick and easy (and I am just plain not hungry).

More posts to follow. I'm back on the Low Carb straight and narrow ;)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-40541604459267072692011-08-31T11:00:00.000-07:002011-08-31T11:01:41.182-07:00Returning to the lifestyle.Yes, that's right - Low Carb is a lifestyle. One I have shunned for a short while (and gained several pounds back). I have not weighed in a bit, but I will. My official re-start date is this Friday. I am looking forward to it, honestly. I've felt pretty crappy eating the junk I have been eating lately. Scott has lost 15 lbs in 16 days! We started Low Carb on September 3rd. Today is the 19th. Never heard of it? Me either, until Low-Carb. I was REALLY craving something crunchy - and discovered an awesome Induction-friendly recipe.

Low Carb Garlic Parmesan Flax Crackers.

Mine turned out quite well, but I didn't stop there. I also made some cinnamon flax cookies, AND a batch of some chili flavored crackers (Cinnamon was good- chili was not so good). The sky is the limit with Flax + seasonings; so experiment & enjoy!

PS. Flax seed is SUPER high in fiber, virtually NO carbs, and keeps you feeling full for a long while. Especially in comparison with other diets I've tried. I received an email from my dearest friend stating the same thing. This really isn't that hard. It's just getting used to a new lifestyle without bread, milk, sugar & other non-approved foods. The sky is still the limit with what IS permitted to eat.

If you find yourself really missing a specific food - please post it, and I'll find you a Low-Carb recipe. First, I fell down the stairs and broke my right pinkie toe. OUCH. Then, I learned that someone very dear to me passed away on Friday. Not to mention the normal day to day stress of raising four children.

I'm an emotional eater. When I get stressed, I want to eat sweets. To avoid going off the plan, I always keep Sugar Free Jello on-hand, and some Truvia to sweeten homemade whipping cream. That usually feeds my craving for sweets.

I also find it important to journal and get those feelings out on paper (or electronically if it's easier - which it is in my case).

Overall - it's not difficult to stay on the Low-Carb plan throughout massive amounts of stress. The cravings aren't overbearing, and not having to deal with the blood sugar roller coaster because of our low carb lifestyle definitely helps.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-60761660106329839922010-09-11T18:41:00.001-07:002010-09-12T06:35:26.112-07:00Ya Breath Staaaank!

Ok, so maybe you knew this and maybe you didn't. When you go into Ketosis, your breath will usually become quite funky. When carb levels are lowered to the 20 gram limit per day during Induction, the body is forced to convert fat into energy. That's Ketosis.

Ketosis causes funky breath because of Ketones which help convert fat stores into energy. Ketones are chemicals that change the pH of your body & cause bad breath.

Solution? Drink LOTS of water, find a no-carb chewing gum (no more than two pieces a day - more than that has caused me to stall before), and brush teeth regularly (I am a little OCD about it and brush 4-5 x's a day).

On the bright side - stanky breath means you're definitely in Ketosis & burning up some serious fat. This annoying side effect won't last too long - and should keep you pretty motivated to achieve goal weight asap. As soon as your carb limit is increased (Phase 2 - after Induction), your breath won't be funky anymore :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-79574557370142195512010-09-09T04:09:00.000-07:002010-09-09T04:52:07.678-07:00Lessons LearnedWhen I took a 4 month hiatus from Low Carb, I learned a LOT (to say the least), but here are the three most important. First, the energy alone from a Low Carb diet makes it worth it. Even if weight loss weren't a welcomed side effect. Second, this is a lifestyle change - not a destination. Feeling as though I had finally "arrived" to my goal weight, I found myself giving in and eating high carb foods. My energy levels plummeted, and I had an overall feeling of sickness after each high carb meal / snack. I started to pack on weight in my midsection again - and that's about all it took. As soon as I realized my clothes were getting tighter, I returned to the low-carb lifestyle and I'm never looking back. Third, my children are watching me. If I indulge in high carb foods and expect them not to do the same, it causes major resentment.

PS. I do break during Thanksgiving & Christmas to enjoy family, food & friends ;) Then get right back at it after those two Holidays.

I <3 Low Carb.

Feeling amazing!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-71599227519031852042010-09-08T08:01:00.000-07:002010-09-09T03:58:26.375-07:00Staying MotivatedOK, so Scott woke up this morning feeling fat - and that has him somewhat discouraged; even though I can already see a huge difference AND he was able to fit into shorts he wasn't able to wear just 5 days ago (pre Low Carb). So what's the deal...why the discouragement?

I went through this too. Sometimes we get in "I WANT IT RIGHT NOW!!!!" type of mindset. It's important to realize that YES, Low-Carb will produce lightening fast results (I lost 80 lbs in 3 months), BUT during the initial stages of Induction you must be patient to allow yourself to go into a deep Ketosis, and then the fat begins to melt off. Add physical activity to the mix, and you've got a recipe for serious fat burning and noticeable results right away.

So don't get discouraged! Don't go based on your feelings. Definitely only weigh yourself once a week at most. The goal here is to look good naked (and clothed for that matter). Track your fat loss results by measuring yourself (not weighing because muscle weighs more than fat - and since we're strength training, undoubtedly we are packing on muscle in place of the fat loss so the weight on the scale will most likely be deceiving). I simply tried on clothes that were too small pre Low Carb. If they fit - I knew it was working. That's the best way to stay motivated ;)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-62909086377598837952010-09-07T03:54:00.000-07:002010-09-07T03:58:38.488-07:00Hunger is subsidingOk, so were now four days into Induction and the hunger has nearly subsided. A welcomed side effect of Ketosis is the natural satiety (feeling of being satisfied). When I did Weight Watchers, I was hungry ALL the time. Low Carb just isn't that way. Of course you should eat until satisfied (satisfied, not stuffed) when you are hungry and definitely do not go more than 6 waking hours without eating when you're Livin' LaVida Low Carb.

Feeling AMAZING.

I love Low-Carb <3Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-71326030726018845162010-09-05T19:57:00.000-07:002010-09-05T20:06:19.890-07:00Dessert was amazing!Ok, so it has been just three days since we returned to the Low-Carb lifestyle. I was SO craving sweets yesterday, but not nearly as bad today... until now. I did eat less than 1/2 cup of Sugar Free Jello tonight, and it tasted amazing! Funny how a few days without any form of sweets can make Jello taste SUPER sweet.

Jello on Induction is perfectly acceptable, but in moderation. 1/2 cup serving is plenty. Adding some home made whipped cream sweetened with Splenda or Truvia is delish also, but you have to count the carbs in the Splenda or Truvia. 1g Carb for Splenda. From what I can tell 0g net carbs in 1 packet of Truvia. I'll update if I find that to be inaccurate.

We have a birthday party coming up soon, and I know if we don't prepare ahead of time Scott & I will have a major temptation with the cake & ice cream. My solution? A YUMMY Low-Carb Cheesecake.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-50069285912980195462010-09-05T06:23:00.000-07:002010-09-05T06:25:55.411-07:00Feeling amazing todayDay three, and I'm already feeling amazing. Slept SO good last night. Had the yummy Folgers coffee + heavy cream to wakey-wakey. (Yes, you can have coffee - just no sugar or milk). Now I'm going to hit the Total Gym for a full body workout before making some bacon or sausage patties & eggs.

I love Low-Carb :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-88148322089918653732010-09-04T20:10:00.000-07:002010-09-04T20:12:37.053-07:00Must. Have Jolly Ranchers. (Will settle for Jello instead)I am seriously craving Jolly Ranchers, which are NOT Induction nor Low-Carb friendly. I can, however, make some sugar-free Jello and silence my sweet tooth cravings.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-66431835917386355802010-09-04T14:42:00.000-07:002010-09-05T06:40:10.266-07:00Fatigue is setting in...Yep - it's starting to set in. This happened the first time around going into Induction. I'm officially headed into Ketosis. Hopefully it won't be much longer and the fatigue will turn to MASSIVE amounts of energy ;) I'll keep track of how long it takes.

Just a side note: it is normal to feel sluggish when you begin Ketosis. It doesn't last long at all.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-57431474779836331812010-09-04T12:53:00.000-07:002010-09-04T16:10:46.136-07:00This week's meal planThis week's meal plan :)

Enjoy!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-36868626116602804262010-09-03T09:09:00.000-07:002010-09-03T12:38:10.846-07:00Today is the day....I return to livin' lavida low-carb. I have been on a four month hiatus. Now Scott is ready to begin with me :)

We started off with bacon & eggs for breakfast.

I've had black coffee today with a very small amount of milk (because we had not yet picked up some heavy whipping cream). I know, I know - Milk is NOT induction friendly. But now I have my heavy whipping cream - so it's all good.

Meal plan post to follow soon.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4215618778850292956.post-1572558258479436902010-08-29T18:13:00.000-07:002010-08-30T05:32:55.901-07:00Planning... is it *that* important?Yes! Planning for the next day, at minimum is a requirement on sticking with a low carb lifestyle. Seriously. It's not hard to do - especially when people like me have already taken the guesswork out of it. I'll post my meal plan for the upcoming week. Keep in mind, this is a meal plan for a family of SIX. If we can do it - so can you ;)

Here's the link to our weekly meal plan.

Keep in mind - this is not a low carb meal plan, because we are emptying our cabinets and freezer of non low-carb friendly foods. We've been on somewhat of a hiatus from low-carb for a few months and are now returning to the lifestyle.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12269560279952063171noreply@blogger.com0
